Tencent releases Hy4 with vision and computer use
Tencent has released Hy4, a 770-billion-parameter model that adds vision and computer use, with open weights and a system card promised soon.
Tencent has released Hy4, the latest version of its Hy large language model, adding the ability to understand images and operate computers for the first time. The company’s AI team announced it on X on 4 November: “Hy4 is here, new with vision. Firmly among the leading open models.”
According to Tencent’s announcement, Hy4 can now handle image tasks such as chart analysis and visual maths, and can work through both command-line tools and graphical interfaces. Tencent says it trained the model on professional software including Blender and CAD to improve long, multi-step tasks.
Size, access and price
Tencent’s Hy4 research page describes a 770-billion-parameter model. It is available through Tencent Cloud’s TokenHub, OpenRouter and Tencent apps including CodeBuddy, WorkBuddy, Yuanbao and ima. The listed API price is $0.834 per million input tokens and $2.501 per million output tokens, with cached input at $0.042 per million. Tencent is offering 50% off on TokenHub until 31 December, and free use in WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy from 4 to 15 November.
The weights are not out yet. Tencent says it plans to release model weights and system cards “in the coming days”, and a smaller Hy4 flash model is also on the way, TechNode reported.
Tencent’s own claims, and caveats
Tencent says Hy4 ranks among the leading open-source models and cites internal tests, including a cut in its measured hallucination rate from 12.95% in Hy4 Preview to 7.2%. These are the company’s own figures and have not been independently checked. Tencent’s research page also acknowledges that a gap remains between Hy4 and the top proprietary models.
On safety, Tencent says the release was built with cybersecurity and biosecurity in mind. CNA reported that the model was trained with limited offensive cybersecurity data amid concerns about AI-assisted hacking.
The launch adds another large Chinese model to a crowded open-model field. Whether Hy4 lives up to Tencent’s claims will be easier to judge once the promised weights and system card are public.
